Topic: Is this Firewall necessary

Hi,

I've connected a wired device (SMA solar inverter) to my network via a wireless WDS client (TP-link WA801ND, CC). I followed this guide (h**ps://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=46544) and it works excellent.

According to the guide no firewall setting (unspecified) is necessary for LAN.
Other guides make no mention regarding the firewall or leave it standard on LAN.
Is a firewall setting in this situation necessary?

Do you need to protect the rest of your LAN from the SMA, or vice-versa?

I guess the LAN has nothing to fear from the inverter and vice-versa. In that respect a firewall would be obsolete.
