You should now see /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1.

Configure the WAN with protocol UMTS/GPRS/EV-DO and the Modem device of either /dev/ttyUSB0 or /dev/ttyUSB1 (experiment to find out which one works - for me it was ttyUSB1).

Configure the remaining details per your ISP's instructions. I'm on 3, so all I had to do was specify an APN of 3internet and a Dial number of *99#. Your ISP may well be different.

Any ideas as to how to do this manually via a dialer (minicom)? I want to try and capture what actually takes place....

Maybe I'll try

ATDT*99#

and see what happens...

.... just tried and got a

CONNECT

Model: E3372h-153.

If it's a genuine E3372h, then https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php … 81#p372981 will help.

If it's an E3372h flashed with the E3372s firmware, then https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php … 78#p372978 will help.

Unfortunately it is locked.

Then your choices are:

  • Persuade the network operator to let you have the unlock code

  • Get a SIM from the network operator which has locked the device

  • Find some information on the Internet which might or might not help you to unlock the device yourself

  • Pay someone for an unlocking service / unlocking code

  • Buy an unlocked device

I took the last option - both my E3372h and E3372s were unlocked from the start, so I didn't have any problems with them.

I decided to top an O2 SIM I had. Now to get it working....

Looking at https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/recipes/3gdongle

makes the process of using the E3372 fairly complicated and error prone. Is there a simplified process?

It's a wiki. Anyone can edit it. If you reckon you can simplify it then go for it. Everyone will benefit.

The discussion might have continued from here.
