I'm new to openwrt so please bear with me smile

I'm trying to set up a 80211s mesh using the image lede-17.01.4-brcm2708-bcm2710-rpi-3-ext4-sdcard.img and a pair of edimax ew-7811un USB devices, I am using the firmware: kmod-rtl8192cu for this purpose. The usb wifi installs and detects fine (and works in AP mode,) however it doesn't seem to come up when a mesh interface is created, no networks are seen and my devices dont connect to each other. I believe this should be supported as iw phy0 info lists mesh-point under supported interface modes for this adaptor?
