Topic: Compex WP54G

The content of this topic has been archived on 12 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I have a couple of Compex WP54G's on my desk, and have started a page for them here: http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Har … mpex/WP54G

I haven't got OpenWrt running on them yet, but I am asking through support channels for information on how to do this, and will update the page when I have it.

They look like very nice boxes and are reasonably priced.

Regards, Brian.

Oh dear, it turns out that a standard WP54G does not run OpenWrt. You need to buy a customised variant which has an extra chip. This is very disappointing sad

Nah.. They sent me one (with the factory bootloader). Theoritically you only have to flash CFE through jtag, but it didn't work for me - no idea why was I unable to upload anything through jtag.

A standard one, or an OpenWrt one?

Did you manage to get it to work at all with OpenWrt, or did you give up?

A standard one.

I delayed it until I figure out why I can't get serial working. If that's done, I can be ready with it in a few days or so.

OK, interesting. What do you make of the comment I got from Compex support?

Compex wrote:

We have a slight change on the board that support OpenWrt.

The change is a hardware protection chip on the board.

To install OpenWrt you need use this board with the added chip.

OpenWrt won't run in standard model without the chip.

We  normally  pre-load  OpenWrt for the board purchased and any update
   can be downloaded.

You  can  order  these  boards  if thi customer is interested in using
   OpenWrt.

I let you guess it wink

I think they have a vrsion which is supporrting the Open-WRT right. may be the website  is updated.

http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Har … mpex/WP54G

2 version of wp54 is suppporting WRT. i try with Wp54-wrt it work find.

and i contact with one of the techical support. i think they going trying hard to release / developing the one with is very easy to convert between their firmware and Open-Wrt.

Just wait n relax.

i will post the information once i get the information again. smile

peace.

HI everyone. thing is it quite late for this information.

The new version of Wp54 - 6E does not required the chip set in order to run Open WRT.

i try it using Kamikaze Forked version from Compex it works fine. And the new method they use is much more easier. need to upload 1 file only instead of 4 files before.

Additional informatin

For some old board serial Cant be used with PoE or else it will spoilt the serial console. But for the new version shouldnt be a problem .

Jtag is not require if the board is not dead. You can always use serial console to debud the problem. I think it is more saver to do so.

I get both WP18/54 with me and solve some of the troublesom problem rise by many ppl in the forum. SO u can pm me if you find the problem so.

smile smile

Cheers

According to what they told me, the OpenWrt development is working hard to fully support WP54 and all adm5120 chipset based boards in the future versions. I hope in the next 7.07 smile
At now, WP54 is still forked from OpenWrt project.

Official 7.07 it's going to be released soon, and it's going to support also WP54!!!

I just got a 7.07.bin version from Compex. Looks pretty find .

DD7:
It is still a fork, isn't it?

GGP81 :

Sorry for the later reply.

I receive the Mod file to create the Own firmware.

And Changes made by Compex for the Mod
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Change the mtd partition names to "kernel" and "rootfs" so firmware can run
Use proper MAC addresses for the ethernet interface
Generate proper image file for Myloader
Create a bridge for the LAN and WLAN
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So actually not much change from the realease version. They only make it more suitable for the board.
Thats going to be better i think so it is suit the board.
Most of the fork/PORK version (hahaha) changes is done in the code so alot of changes is done in the main coding. (Correct me if iam wrong)

so the bin file that i receive is made to make the board run in the better way.
I tested to 3 days already with no problem at all. wait to see more longer.

So "mtd -r write firmware.bin linux" command still cannot work.
This would be useful to upgrade more quickly the firmware using Webif.

If not wrong thats for your own firmware right,

I have no idea about this. but since they already make
"Change the mtd partition names to "kernel" and "rootfs" so firmware can run"
so you should be able to run it.  Or may be other member can help you.

The discussion might have continued from here.
