Topic: What's the future of OpenWRT on unreleased routers

The content of this topic has been archived on 29 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I'm a fan of embedded system hacking, but primarily a UI designer and web application engineer.  I've never found a web interface on an embedded system that was pleasant to use or well architected and i'm itching to develop one for OpenWrt (perhaps start with the X-WRT trunk).

I don't want to develop for a project that has no longterm future, so i'm asking others what you speculate the lifespan of OpenWrt is.  I've been using it on a Linksys WRT54G for two years and haven't been following what other devices it works on and what the growth is.  Does it even work on any draft-n routers?

Broadcom stuff is not the only platform that is supported by the OpenWrt development release.
We have ports for AR7, Hardware from Aruba Wireless, Mikrotik RouterBoard, Magicbox, AMD Alchemy, Intel XScale, etc.
So the WRT54G is neither exciting nor particularly important these days...
