hello, I want to use my asus wl500 box as car-pc. I want to be able to shutdown the router from remote (when i come home, i will transfer new songs via wlan to the usb stick, and when im finish i want to shut down the asus). is this possible?

cheers

The router is on until you pull the power, there is no non physical way of turning it off.

You can however pull the power at any point you aren't actively writing to the filesystem.

thanks for your reply... i was afraid of such an answer... the problem is, that i want to shutdown the router remotely.. i dont think the router has something like a sleep function (aka cheap acpi). someone know, how much current the wl500 draws?

Use a relay... it's pretty simple to build. And you can control it with GPIO.

Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 takes about 170mA with WIFI off for 16V, 250mA with wifi on.
