Topic: Fully featured OpenWrt build for the WNDR3700 (NO LONGER MAINTAINED)

The content of this topic has been archived between 13 Apr 2013 and 6 May 2018. Unfortunately there are posts – most likely complete pages – missing.

Just wanted to say thanks for this firmware. I've been following the thread since you released the first build, and been using your firmware build for about two months now. So much better than stock, and I saw a really nice speed increase transferring files across my network (mainly moving files from my desktop to my ReadyNAS via Wi-Fi.

So, that's it smile No issues or problems ... just wanted to say thank you!

Glad you like it big_smile

I recently bought a wndr3700v1 specifically to use with this build and I can't wait to try it out. Any feedback on the recent releases?

Thanks very much for providing this to the community!

latest build is awesome.   I'm still doing some testing, but I'm not sure if the latest wifi driver update is causing issues, or if my neighbor has bought some new powertools and is affecting my range.

Seriously though - dont waste your time with the NetGear stock.  This is where its at (arokh is our hero  :-)  )

Hello Dickie, don't agree with you. I've done some testing with arokh's build r25727 but both dd-wrt and the stock firmware v1.0.7.98 do give me far better wireless connections. See also my earlier post (2011-02-28 22:04:29) on which I haven't seen any reaction..
For now I'm using dd-wrt for a couple of days without any wireless problems. My WiFi internet radio is already playing >24 hours without a single interruption (and with a steady 2 bars!).

Regards..Dick

hmmmm do you think its since these latest wireless updated (I mentioned).  I'm trying to diagnose if its environmental or not..

good call - thats exactly the issue I saw with the latest build (odd that it wasn't appearing in some of the older ones I was using).   Its definitely something thats appeared recently -  r25097 never had these issues.  At least I'm not going mad.   I might have to struggle with stock until this ticket is resolved.  Thanks for pointing me straight at it! :-)

Stock isn't that bad (apart from the GUI which is a nightmare..).

I feel sorry for arokh..he is putting a lot of efforts and dedication in his builds but he cannot help this athk9 wireless driver issue. I hope for him that it will be resolved soon.. and then I might give a try to one of his builds again..

For me, the GUI of dd-wrt is really superior..whenever I change a wireless option, the wireless connection sometimes only drops for a (split of a) second and is back again..this is something I do not see with OpenWRT and definitely not with the stock firmware..changing almost any option and all connections drop for about 60 seconds.. terrible...hey, this is 2011.. smile

I didn't notice until now that if you run minidlna and miniupnp at the same time, discovery will only work for whichever was started first.

Luckily, there's a remedy: minissdpd is a daemon that will handle discovery for all. Had to create a package for it and patch minidlna, but now it works!

r25854:
- Added new package minissdpd
- Updated minidlna to latest CVS
- Patched minidlna to support minissdpd
- Updated miniupnp to latest snapshot

Enjoy minidlna+miniupnp at the same time smile

I downloaded the firmware openwrt-wndr3700-20110304-r25854-squashfs-factory.img ask configured network.
Next, try to put nano, but the ride to start getting error

root @ OpenWrt / root # opkg install nano
Installing nano (2.2.6-1) to root ...
Downloading http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/ … ar71xx.ipk.
Installing libncurses (5.7-3) to root ...

Configuring libncurses.
Configuring nano.

and similarly with some other packages

You should not mix packages from the general repository with Arokh's build, as those may have been compiled with different options. That is generally the challenge with self-built versions that you should have everything from the same supplier...

Instead, you should download packages from Arohk's site: http://enduser.subsignal.org/~trondah/packages/

@arokh:
Maybe you should change /etc/opkg.conf included in the build to point to your site's package directory. That would prevent users from downloading problematic packages from the general repository and ease the use of the build (although all packages aren't available there).

perhaps you are right, and there is no right to me packages.

@hnyman

Actually, all the packages from the snapshots repository should be compatible (in theory), except for the kernel modules which I have included in my repository.

Since uClibc isn't backwards compatible, you will need to use a firmware compiled from recent trunk to ensure 100% compatibility. As long as you are on the same uClibc version though, you should be fine.

There have been issues with the snapshot build system though which has resulted in incompatibilities for some packages. Since I don't build all the packages, there's no other option than to compile yourself a package that doesn't work.

Why would you need nano btw? Learn to use VI smile

Can someone tell how to configure the firmware on this transmission.
Installed, everything seems set up but is not downloading.

Installed to USB stick or internal memory?
If USB stick, then you may need to reformat usb stick using openwrt, and reinstall transmission.

To an external USB HDD.
Formatted by Acronis (EXT2).

I have same prob as matashin. I installed latest arokh's FW (06.03.2011 r25881) and transmission 2.21 - daemon starts but doesnt start downloding or uploading. WNDR3700v1, installed on external HDD(sda1-extroot/ext4, sda2-data/ext4, sda3-swap/linux-swap)

@arokh  - has something changed on kmod-gre ?  I can no longer install PPTP

/root# opkg install pptp
Installing pptp (1.7.1-3) to root...
Downloading http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/ … ar71xx.ipk.
Collected errors:
* satisfy_dependencies_for: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for pptp:
*     kmod-gre *
* opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package pptp.

Also if you remove and re-install the PPTPD it fails with the same error.  Do I need to point at a different / new software repository other than the defaults?

root@OpenWrt /root# opkg install kmod-gre
Unknown package 'kmod-gre'.

I did it, but it didnt help. my extroot is formated with openwrt and data partition as well.Even partitioned with fdisk under openwrt

Transmission:

With disc problems are not like, more like a network problem, since downloading goes, but occasionally, in small portions.

Just to add to transmission problem - currently I downgraded to 04.01.2011r24892 with transmission 2.12(11412) and works w/o problems
